Please ensure you arrive 5 minutes before your baby scan appointment.

Your more than welcome to bring along up to 3 additional guests.
A fizzy drink / chocolate bar consumed 30 minutes before your visit may encourage baby to co-operate during the scan.
A miracle in the making, an early confirmation baby scan can make the difference, instantly giving peace of mind, to be able to see those first beginnings.
In viable pregnancies, trans-vaginal (internal) scans should be able to detect a gestation sac from 4-5 weeks of pregnancy. A yolk sac can clearly be seen at 5 1/2 weeks gestation.
A Trans-abdominal (external) scan may be less accurate at this early 5 week or less stage. The quality of ultrasound images produced by both trans-vaginal and trans-abdominal scans will be affected by your BMI and the position of the baby. Higher BMIs can effect the visibility of the pregnancy especially when the pregnancy is so early. If our sonographer is unable to detect your pregnancy externally and you decline an internal scan unfortunately we cannot offer you a free second visit,. if you do opt for an internal scan which also cannot detect a positive pregnancy then you can return in 7 days for a scan free of charge.
Ultrasound can usually detect a fetal heartbeat at 6-7 weeks of pregnancy, when the baby's length or crown-rump length (CRL) is 7mm or greater.
If the CRL is less than 7mm and no heartbeat is seen, this may be because the embryo is too young. You will be offered a free re-scan. Often, ladies date their pregnancies based on their last known period, however, these dates can be affected by numerous variables and as such, are not always correct. This can mean that the pregnancy is not as far along as you may think. We will be able to see the pregnancy, however we may not be able to confirm a heartbeat and will therefore ask you back for a free rescan at a time when our sonographer recommends.
If the CRL is greater than 7mm and no heartbeat is seen, sadly this means you have a loss, and a miscarriage.
Very rarely, your sonographer may be concerned that there are ultrasound signs of an ectopic pregnancy. or other abnormalities. These can be dangerous complications of pregnancy that requires hospital treatment. In this case, the sonographer will advise you what to do.
The wonder of life has started and at 6 weeks your baby's development is underway. your baby's brain is first, and appears much larger than the rest of the body at this stage. Arms and legs can be seen as little nubs, cartilage is forming rapidly and the eyelids are also developing, the eyes will eventually move across the head into their correct position as your baby grows. Here at baby Wellbeing we can from 6 weeks check your baby's development and give you an estimated delivery date. sometimes its possible a trans-abdominal (external) scan can detect an early heartbeat dependant on BMI and the babies position. Your sonographer will also be able to take measurements and add these to a growth chart which is a really useful tool for re-assurance at this early stage. all the images your sonographer takes are streamed to your mobile device and are yours to keep free of charge.
Your baby weighs around 7 grams and 4cm long, arms and legs are developed with tiny fingers and toes, fingernails are developing. Your babys vital organs are developed and the risks of any problems is diminishing. At Baby Wellbeing we offer a 10-12 week scan and our sonographer can check every detail of your baby's growth, they can check the position of the placenta, which is now formed and taking over the supply of blood and nutrients to your baby. The heartbeat is now strong and can easily be shown on the screen as well as hearing it. brain, heart and lung development can also be checked.using the doppler feature our scanner can also show the transfer of blood through the heart in full colour detail. all images our sonographer takes are streamed directly to your mobile device and are yours to keep free of charge.
at this stage your baby can hear the outside world, the eyes are developed and in their final location, your sonographer may be able to catch baby yawning or blinking, they can also take measurements and add them to your growth chart, your baby's position can also be noted. your sonographer will also try and catch the "potty shot" this will allow them to determine what sex your baby is BOY or GIRL if you are in the early part of this stage and 14 weeks, our sonographer may not be able to get an accurate assessment and they may invite you to return in a week or so when you baby has developed a little more, if a second visit is required there is no charge for this. Please tell reception staff if you don't wish to know the gender and your doing a gender reveal, in this case your sonographer will keep this to themselves and you will be presented with an envelope containing the result, there are many ways you can reveal the gender of your baby, please speak with reception who can show you the options. as with all our scans any images your sonographer takes will be streamed to your mobile device free of charge.
Your baby is fully developed and growing fast, weighing in at 240 grams and 15cm long, you may start to feel "flutters" and slight movement as your baby gets stronger. Your sonographer will check development and add measurements to your growth chart. Your baby will start to look like a little person and start to show facial features., maybe even hair. Your baby will still be quite skeletal at this stage please ask your sonographer if you would like a peak into their 3D form - some do prefer to wait until baby has filled out a little more. all images your sonographer takes will be streamed directly to your mobile device free of charge
